  • SECURITY DEPOSIT: What is a “Damage Waiver”?

Cobblestone does not require payment of a Security Deposit, this is for your convenience and security. Most agencies will require you to give a large cash deposit during check in or to wire money to them before arrival. Often, they will be very slow to refund these payments and may charge fees for doing so.

During Online Booking, you will pay a small DAMAGE WAIVER FEE. This non-refundable payment will protect you against small accidental damages to the apartment. This has a maximum protection of 1000 Eur and covers unintentional damages only.

NOTE: Damage Waiver will not protect you against POLICY VIOLATIONS such as: Smoking, Noise, Lost Keys, Additional Cleaning, Unauthorized Late Checkout, Keys Left in the Back of Door, etc.

Please ensure to read your contract in full in order to avoid any extra fees during your stay.

  • HOURS: What are the Check-In/Check Out Times? What Happens if I arrive Late At Night?

    Check-in time is after 14:00 (2:00 pm)

    Check-out time is before 10:00 (10:00 am)

    LATE ARRIVAL FEES:

  • RATES: How do You Set Your Rates, Can Another Site Give a Better Price?

    THE COBBLESTONE PRICING THEORY:

Cobblestone wants to offer prices that are attractive to our clients, and prices which are appropriate for the quality of our apartments. The rates that we offer are not the highest in Paris, and they are not the lowest. Rates are fair for the high quality of our service, comfort of our apartments, and central locations. We offer the best service in Paris, and this means that you will not have to wonder if you will have a pleasant experience. You do not want to rent from a company simply because they have the lowest prices. It is wise to carefully study a company before booking to ensure that they have the experience and reviews to ensure that you will have a positive experience in Paris. Especially in this city, it is important to choose the right company because customer service is not commonly respected or managed in the same way that you might expect at home.

WHY IS ONE APARTMENT MORE EXPENSIVE THAN ANOTHER?:

Many factors may influence the price. Size, Location, Amenities, Quality of Renovation, Floor, and View. However, these are not the only factors. Two apartments which are virtually the same may have different prices for other reasons. One might be that the more expensive apartment has a very full calendar, and therefore rates have been increased because the majority of the nights have already been booked at a lower rate.

HOW LONG IS AN EMAIL PRICE QUOTE VALID?:

A price quote sent to you in an email is valid only for 24 hours. Rates are adjusted constantly and it is smart to book as soon as possible to avoid a rate increase the next time you visit the website. However, if you have found a higher rate on the website within 24 hours of receiving a lower price by email, please notify us. If there was no error in sending you the quote, we will make the adjustment for you. Rate errors, however, cannot be honored. Final rate decisions rest with Cobblestone.

I SAW A LOWER PRICE ON ANOTHER WEBSITE, WILL YOU HONOR IT?:

Unfortunately, the answer to this question is generally NO. The reason is that we use many websites for advertising and it is not possible to keep all of the websites updated. A lower price on another site such as ( FLIPKEY / HOMEAWAY / or AIRBNB) will not be honored. The only correct price is the one seen on the Cobblestone website, at the time of booking.

SERVICE & DISCOUNT QUESTIONS

  • SHUTTLES: Can Cobblestone Provide Airport Shuttle Transportation?

The most comfortable mode of transportation from the airport is a SHARED or PRIVATE VAN.

It is our advice that you reserve a shuttle to arrive at your apartment in the easiest manner possible.

You can also take a train or a taxi, but after a long flight, dragging heavy bags through train stations can be a difficult and frustrating experience. This train is also susceptible to theft against tired and unsuspecting travellers.

Strikes and transport walk-outs have become increasingly common and unpredictable. If you arrive or depart on the day of a strike, you will be forced to take a taxi through heavy traffic. This will be very expensive and if you are departing, you might miss your flight. A shuttle is the best way to avoid this possibility and travel in comfort.

The shuttle is a FIXED FEE and you will not pay more if there is traffic or other delays.

Please CLICK HERE to book your arrival transport.

  • LAST MINUTE DISCOUNTS: Do My Dates Apply For A Last Minute Discount?

The Cobblestone website is programmed to automatically calculate discounted prices for Last Minute Bookings.

A Last Minute Booking is any reservation made for dates within thirty days of the arrival date. Clearly speaking, if you make a booking today for an arrival within 30 days, your booking will be discounted.

NOTE: This applies to all reservations, except the holiday periods of Dec 20-Jan 5. Some High Season Periods may also be exempt from the 30 day discounted period. If you make a booking within 30 days of these dates, the normal price will apply.

  • UBER vs TAXI: Which is Better in Paris?

Cobblestone is a proud supporter of innovative technology, and the UBER app is amazing. It can be very useful to anyone visiting Paris, or any city in the world. UBER is exceptionally popular in Paris, and you will never have any trouble to find a ride quickly, safely, and affordably.

The sad truth is that TAXIS are not very good in Paris because you cannot simply flag a TAXI in the street, you must find a designated TAXI stand, and they can be hard to find. Even more important, UBER drivers are often more friendly and helpful.

We recommend using UBER for moving around Paris whenever you are not using the metro or walking. It is very popular in Paris, and you can call a driver to you within a few minutes at any time of day and to anywhere you are.

TAXIS will begin charging you when you call them, but UBER will not begin billing until you are in the car and on your way. You will not have to haggle over price, or worry about language problems. UBER is smart and will do all the work. Enter your destination, and it will be communicated instantly to the driver, and after arrival, your preferred credit card will be charged and you will receive receipt by email.

SAVINGS: If you do not yet have the UBER app on your phone, you can download it for FREE from the app store to your smartphone. With the following coupon code, you can have your first ride free (up to $15). CODE: jenniferm4417ue

CHECK-IN QUESTIONS

  • GETTING KEYS: How Will I Get Keys for my Cobblestone Apartment?

This is a very good question to ask! Many Paris rental agencies will ask you to visit a rental office to pick up the keys for your apartment. This is not the best option for you because sometimes the office is not near the apartment. You may be required to visit different areas of Paris and if you are not familiar with the city, this can be challenging. Traffic can be heavy in Paris and if you ask your taxi driver to visit two locations, this might be very expensive for you.

Cobblestone has thought of everything to make your arrival as easy as possible. You will be given directions to your apartment and there you will meet your personal Cobblestone Greeter. English-Speaking and trained by Cobblestone in the highest standards of customer service, your greeter will give you keys and provide you with a friendly welcome to Paris.

LATE ARRIVAL FEES: If you are scheduled for an arrival between 9pm-11pm, you will be required to pay 30Eur for a Late Arrival Greeting. If you arrive after 11pm, the key will be made available to you in the lobby of the building or at a very nearby location.

  • PERSONAL GREETING: Who Will Meet Me When I Arrive in Paris?

The Personal Cobblestone Greeter assigned to your apartment will contact you within 30 days of your arrival to confirm your arrival time and give you their contact details. Please advise the Personal Greeter of your estimated arrival time and contact her by phone if you encounter a difficulty and believe that you will arrive later than planned. Once you meet the Cobblestone greeter, they will show you the apartment features/appliances, explain rental policies, and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you wish. The Personal Greeter is available if you have any questions about the apartment during your stay by email or phone.

  • EARLY ARRIVAL: My Plane Lands Very Early, but Check In is not until after later, what can I do with my bags?

Our check in time is usually between 14:00-16:00, to assist you, we can sometimes offer the option of Early Luggage Drop-Off upon request.

In most cases, another guest will be leaving the apartment on the same day that you arrive and it will not be possible to have the apartment ready early.

However, you may ask to come to the apartment before the official check-in time and leave your bags only. If this is possible, you will be invited to drop your bags at the apartment, meet the greeter, collect the keys, and return after check in time. We ask that you do not arrive before 10:30 am.

After you have dropped off your luggage, we kindly ask that YOU DO NOT REMAIN IN THE APARTMENT WHILE IT IS BEING CLEANED. Please allow the greater space and time to complete the preparation of the apartment. The Greeter will not continue to prepare the apartment until you have left. Please stay only a few minutes and do not delay the cleaner from preparing the apartment for you.

  • LATE FOR ARRIVAL: What Do I Do if I Am Late For My Check-In?

If your arrival will be delayed, please notify the Greeter as soon as possible by phone. If possible, also send an email. Remember to bring the Greeter’s contact information while you are traveling. Call, text message, or email the greeter to let them know you will be late. If there is no answer, leave a clear message with your name and apartment and state the time that you will arrive. The Greeter will wait up to 1 hour30 min after your original scheduled time at no extra charge.

If you are not able to contact the Greeter, or the Greeter is unable to wait for you, the keys will be left for you. Refer to your rental agreement to find the location where the keys will be left.

LATE NIGHT ARRIVAL: If you are arriving between 9pm and 11pm, there will be a 20Eur charge. You can pay for this during booking, or in cash to your greeter on arrival.

  • WHAT IS PROVIDED: Things That You DO NOT Need To Bring With You.

THE COBBLESTONE AMENITY POLICY: The idea of “Customer Service” is not the same everywhere, and that is why you want to rent from a Company that understands you. Most apartments in Paris will leave most of the work to you. You will walk into an empty apartment that feels more like a hotel room or a prison cell than a warm and welcoming home. We are not exaggerating, and this comes from our many years of experience in providing and renting European rental apartments. Other agencies will offer bedding and towels, but the bookshelves will be bare, the kitchen cabinets will be empty, and the work is left to you. Most French agencies will not provide anything to get you started and a guest will be expected go to the store after arrival to buy many basic things. You will be tired after traveling, and shopping for soap, toilet paper, coffee, will probably not seem very exciting to you.

Cobblestone believes that these things are as ESSENTIAL as clean sheets and towels and that a guest should not have to go buy them. In fact, we have gone far above the basic items, and tried to create a home you will love to return to. Cobblestone has tried to think of everything, and to ensure that you do not have to worry about equipping your apartment with the basic essentials.

  • ELECTRICITY AND VOLTAGE QUESTIONS: Do I Need A Voltage Converter For My Electronic Items

That is a very good question, and many people have learned the hard way about what kinds of electrical devices make good travel companions, and which ones are better left at home. The US & CAN run household appliances on voltage 110-120V but Europe uses a much more powerful voltage of 220V . This means that some devices, if not properly protected, can be damaged or destroyed if plugged into a European wall plug without the right protective steps. If you are bringing motor or heat items (hair curlers, hair dryers) you will need a power converter. We provide hair dryers in all of our apartments, so that is one that you will not have to worry about!

MORE GOOD NEWS is that Most Travel-Related appliances do not require a power converter to change the voltage, because they are designed for travel, and they will adjust themselves automatically! This list of items usually includes: Laptops, Telephones, and Electric Shavers. To check if your appliance is going to be OK in Europe, look at the back of the device and try to find a notice that says ” INPUT 100-240V / .50-60Hz”. This will mean that the device will function almost normally when you arrive in Europe.

YOU WILL STILL NEED AN ADAPTOR: This is a small device that will attach to the end of your plug, and allow your US/CAN plug to fit into the European wall sockets, that have a different shape. An Adaptor will generally NOT CONVERT Voltage, so you must be certain that your device will adjust automatically, before plugging it into the wall of your Paris apartment or European hotel.

Our Friend Rick Steves Has Written An Article About This Subject: For More information nd photos of the type of adapter you will need to bring, please CLICK HERE

To understand more about what you will need, please watch this video: https://video.about.com/goeurope/Electricity-in-Europe-Basics.htm

Important: Cobblestone is not responsible for any electrical damage to your equipment and does not provide converters or adapters.

  • INTERNET: Does My Cobblestone Apartment Have Internet Access?

Cobblestone Paris Rental Apartments provide Free WIFI internet access and the cost is included in your rental.

You must have your own notebook, laptop, or Smart-Phone that can get a WIFI signal. We can not offer technical support to help you to connect to WIFI, it is advised you learn how to do this before your trip.

WIFI Passwords will be provided in your contract or at the time of arrival.

Important: The electricity and plug sockets in Europe are different than the US/CAN. If you are bringing a travel type item (laptop, tablet, phone, travel razor) you will usually only need an adapter to change the shape of your plug to fit the European socket. However, if you are bringing motor or heat items (hair curlers, hair dryers) you will likely also need a power converter.

To understand more about what you will need, please watch this video: https://video.about.com/goeurope/Electricity-in-Europe-Basics.htm

Important: Cobblestone is not responsible for any electrical damage to your equipment and does not provide converters or adapters.

  • AIR CONDITIONING: Do Parisian Apartments Provide Air Conditioning?

We provide at least two fans for each apartment, and this is generally all that is needed. Air Conditioning may be a common feature of homes in the US, Canada, and Australia, but this is not the same in France. It is hard to find apartments with AC in Paris, because buildings are very old and very high temperatures are extremely rare. Paris is known more for clouds and rain than scorching heat and uncomfortable weather.

It is common for Parisian buildings to be older than 200 years, when air conditioning did not exist. It is very difficult to modify old buildings to add AC, and most Parisians have never felt it necessary.

Old buildings also means that construction materials are extremely durable and temperature resistant. Walls are thick, windows are small, and buildings maintain a steady temperature inside. Apartments are also very small and there is no place for ducts or AC condensers.

Further, electricity is expensive, and for these reasons Parisians have never installed them as a matter of course. Generally, it is not needed, as Paris is most often grey and cloudy with rain, however there can be heatwaves in the summer. For those days, we do provide fans and most guests will find this to be adequate.

  • PICKPOCKETS: I Have Heard About Pickpockets in Paris, How Can I Avoid This?

Unfortunately, it is true. Pickpocketing in major European cities is a reality, and Paris is no exception. This is not a new phenomenon, it has been around for centuries. However, you do not need to become a victim if you use some common sense and do not allow yourself to become an EASY TARGET.

The Good News is that pickpockets are never violent, they are skilled practitioners of this dubious art form. This is not street violence, and many US cities are far more dangerous than Paris or Barcelona. The threat is different, the thieves are smarter. They do not want to hurt you, they do not want you to notice. They are smooth and fast, and they want to come and go like a ghost. They are looking or people that are easy targets, and you do not need to be one if you follow a few simple suggestions.

    TAKE PRECAUTIONS & BE SMART:

The first rule of thumb is don’t have anything more in your wallet than you are willing to lose. Try to keep only what is essential: ONE credit/ATM card, ONE piece of identification, and no more than €40-50. A hair brush can be easily replaced, but something like your passport or your social security card is much more difficult and its loss can cause much grief. Make a copy of your passport, and front and back of everything that you have in your wallet. In case something happens, you have all the numbers and contact information to cancel your cards and replace your passport.

LADIES SHOULD HOLD PURSES TIGHTLY & USE A ZIPPER AT ALL TIMES:

Ladies, only carry purses that zip. Carry your purse tightly under your arm and slightly in front of you. If you have the backpack-type purse, swing it around so that it is slightly in front of you as well. We don’t have eyes in the back of our heads, so keep your purse where you can see it. Gents, put a rubber band around your wallet and put it in your front pocket. This is going to make it extremely difficult for someone to get it out without you knowing.

    BE AWARE:

The most likely places to get pick pocketed are close to major tourist sites: like the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Champs-Elysées. Americans in Paris should be particularly alert to thieves who commonly work near tourist attractions such as museums, monuments, restaurants, hotels, beaches, trains, train stations, airports, subways and target vehicles with non-local license plates.

    KNOW THE SIGNS & TRICKS:

Pickpockets are sometimes good at blending into groups, but in Paris they stand out if you know what to look for. One common sign is young girls with long hair and wearing sweatpants and sweatshirts wrapped around the waste and holding papers pretending to gather signatures. DONT DO IT.

    ONE COMMON SCHEME:

You may be walking in a park and someone in front of you may pretend to find a golden ring or piece of jewelery. They will pretend as if they found it and will offer it to you for sale. it is not real, DO NOT FALL FOR IT.

Most, but not all pickpockets work in groups. They are often adolescents, since it is extremely difficult for minors to go to jail here. They can be groups of young girls or boys and of all races.

    MORE COMMON TACTICS:

ON THE METRO: The most popular is the crush and grab. You will be swarmed by several people all trying to get on or off. While they are pushing you, they are also picking your pockets. Another trick is to grab the purse of someone sitting right by the door and to hop off just as the doors are closing. To avoid being a victim, try to find a seat away from the doors. If you can’t sit, back yourself up against one of the sides. Try to minimize access to your pockets and purses.

ON THE STREET: The most frequently used tactic here is the distraction technique. Two or more people will approach you and ask for directions, try to sell you stuff, or just crowd you. While you are occupied with one person, another is picking your pocket. Another technique is to have something thrown or spilled on you, like water or ice cream. Someone will approach you and offer to help clean you up. Another person then picks your pocket while you are distracted.

ATM SCAMS: Most of the ATM’s here in Paris are safe. Just make sure you use one that is well lit, at a reputable bank and not down some dark, deserted alley. If the ATM sucks in your card and does not give it back, go into the bank IMMEDIATELY! This is not normal and most likely the ATM has been tampered with by thieves. Don’t talk to anyone while you are using the ATM. Walk up, get your money and then get on your way. Recent tactics include people walking up and asking for directions while someone is using the ATM. While they are distracted, the crooks get the pin and card numbers and can then come back and empty your account. Also, put your hand over the pin pad while you are entering your code. That way, no one can see the numbers you enter. If the ATM appears to have been tampered with, DON’T use it.

    BLEND IN:

Pickpockets target many of us because we stand out and look like we have money. TRY TO DRESS LIKE A LOCAL: Do not wear T-Shirts and Tennis Shoes. Dont Wear Baseball Caps, Dont Wear Fanny Packs. Use Dress shirts and slacks, ladies in skirts and blouses. Keep maps hidden away, and try to look like you fit in. Just be aware of your surroundings and your belongings at all times. If you know you are going to a particularly touristy spot, leave as much at home as you can.

WHAT TO DO IF IT HAPPENS TO YOU:

If you do have your pocket picked, start yelling for the police immediately. If none respond, go to the local police station (commissariat) and file a complaint. Don’t chase down whoever you think stole your wallet. Remember if they work in groups, your wallet was most likely handed off before you realized it was gone. If you chase down and grab who you think is the culprit and he/she doesn’t have your wallet, you could get into deep trouble, fast. Find yourself a police officer and make an immediate report.

    THE EMBASSY CAN HELP:

The Consular Section of your Embassy has information on how to replace certain items (such as credit cards and airline tickets) which have been stolen or lost. If you have lost all of your money, they can give you information on the most rapid means for money transfer, and can assist you in contacting family or friends. If your passport was stolen, they can issue you a replacement.

  • LOST/ FOUND ITEMS: What Happens If I Leave Something in The Apartment after Checkout?

If you notice that you may have forgotten something in the apartment, please notify us by email as soon as possible. Our staff will attempt to find the item.

Company policy for lost items charges a MINIMUM of 30 EUR for the return of any item, regardless of size.

This must be paid in advance by credit car or paypal. Please use this link: https://cobblestoneparis.com/payment

This initial payment covers staff time of 15 Eur, packaging, time away from our normal duties, and some of the shipping cost. If the cost of the shipping is more than 15 Eur, we will ask for you to send this also before the package can be shipped.

We apologize for the inconvenience, however the postal system in France is very challenging and we are unable to offer return items on a complimentary basis.

If your item is replaceable, it may be better to replace it at home. If the item is valuable, sending the item by normal French poste is not advised. Delays may be considerable and the risk of loss is significant. We will recommend using a more secure method such as DHL. The cost will be greater, as well as the security. In either case, Cobblestone cannot accept any liability if your item is delayed, broken, or lost during shipping.
