The Haut Marais is where historic Paris and modern Paris combine. Here you’ll find a lovely array of upscale designer boutiques, vintage clothes stores, gourmet food shops, and some of the city’s best restaurants and hippest bars all in the backdrop of some of the oldest and most beautiful buildings of Paris. With its numerous galleries and museums, including the newly reopened Musée Carnavalet, the Marais is also a huge draw for art-lovers. Its lovely public gardens and polished architecture – a mix of the medieval, elegant 18th century, Haussmannian grandeur, and a touch of cutting-edge modern – only add to its considerable charm. There is enough to see, do, and eat in this neighborhood alone that you could easily fill up a week!
Getting to the other places of interest is super easy as well. The Marais is so central that you can easily walk to place de la République, the Bastille, Place des Vosges, Ile Saint Louis and Ile de la Cite (Notre Dame) to name a few. You’ll also have quick and easy access to the metro, with Filles du Calvaire (line 8) being your closest station. République is the next closest station and offers 5 different metro lines (3, 5, 8, 9 & 11).
